saffron? what is saffron today
saffron has exceeded its boundaries from the fabrics of our garments to becoming the very fabrics of our democracy
in this never ending race of whites and emeralds we somewhere lost the indigoes midway
our tryst with destiny was refurbished on the midnight of 14th of august,1947
india awoke to life and freedom then, but is this the life and freedom we were destined for
one where neither ambedkar nor gandhi are shareholders of the markets of our ideologies
the freedom that we awoke to when we abrogated article 370,
invoking freedom by imposing the longest-running internet shutdown in any “democracy” ever
205 days,4920 hours,295200 seconds
imagine being stuffed with a saffron cloth in your mouth for 205 days, the cloth soaking your whole mouth dry
and with it your will to live
but how could you?
you have the privilege of using this cloth as a mere accessory
this saffron cloth that you have so elegantly draped upon on your shoulders,
will soon bear the weight of many more like the unknowns of lakhimpur kheri
this cloth will soon turn green with the lives that you have painted on with them
but alas one toss in your new washing machine,
and it’ll come out newer, newer and fresher than the convicted offenders of Bilkis Bano
or Sukhram’s son or Mukul Roy for instance, and you will garland and celebrate them again
you will bury them in the pages of your free press
until
unit this saffron that you use on your foreheads day in and out erupts in the clouds of the fame of your disruption
